Joan Miró
'A form gives me an idea, this idea evokes another form, and everything culminates in figures, animals, and things I had no way of foreseeing in advance.'
Joan Miró (1893–1983) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramicist, pivotal in the 20th-century art world for his surrealistic works that blend fantasy with abstract elements. Known for his vibrant color palette and organic forms, Miró's art evokes a sense of playful spontaneity while delving into the subconscious mind. His prints, especially his lithographs and etchings, are celebrated for their innovative techniques and imaginative motifs, making them treasured collectibles. Miró's legacy as an avant-garde artist endures in his whimsical creations.

Send me more information on Joan Miró
Joan Miró (1893–1983), born in the Barri Gotic neighbourhood of Barcelona, began his artistic journey at the age of seven in Carrer del Regomer, later honing his skills at La Llotja's fine art academy and the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc. His first solo show in 1918 at the Galeries Dalmau marked the beginning of a remarkable career, leading to his move to Paris in 1920, drawn by the burgeoning arts community in Montparnasse.
Miró's first Parisian solo exhibition in 1921, facilitated by Joseph Dalmau at Galerie La Licorne, paved the way for his joining the Surrealist group in 1924. This period saw Miró's natural interest in symbolism flourish, as he experimented with subverting traditional framing, creating his renowned 'dream series'. His unique symbolic language, combined with Surrealist automatisation, distinguishes his works, now available for purchase and highly sought after by collectors and art lovers.
Returning to representational techniques in 1928, Miró's long-standing partnership with the Pierre Matisse Gallery began in 1931, continuing until his death in 1983. Throughout the 1960s, Miró frequently featured in exhibitions by the Maeght Foundation, and the 1970s saw multiple global retrospectives in New York, London, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, and Paris. His international reputation culminated in major exhibitions posthumously, including the comprehensive exhibition of his painting and graphic work at Madrid's Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in 1978, and centenary tributary exhibitions at Fundació Joan Miró, MoMa, and Galerie Lelong.
Joan Miró's artwork is collected worldwide, with the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía regularly loaning pieces for international exhibitions, such as 'Joan Miró: Instinct and Imagination' at the Mcnay Art Museum and Denver Art Museum (2015-2016), and ‘Joan Miró: Birth of the World’ at MoMa in 2019.
