'Art is the expression of imagination, not the reproduction of reality’
Henry Moore was a British artist known for his innovative sculptures that linked the shape of the human body to the natural landscapes around him. His work often featured smooth, organic forms that resembled bones, hills, or stones. Influenced by surrealism and primitivism, he created powerful abstract figures that feel both modern and ancient at the same time.
Moore’s work has been widely exhibited internationally with several retrospectives and major exhibitions at venues such as the Tate Gallery, London (1951), the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (1983), the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto (1998), and most recently at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (2026). His work is held in most major collections internationally, with notable holdings at the Tate Britain, London; the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York; the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago; and the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto.
