Intaglio…
is the word used to describe the collection of printmaking techniques that create a print by incising an image onto a surface, known as a printing matrix. When the matrix surface is inked, only the incised areas can hold the ink. Next the image is transferred onto paper by the application of pressure, often using a printing press, creating an impression or print. The most common intaglio techniques are: etching, engraving, aquatint, and drypoint.
