Coming out of the professional association between Joan Miró and Galerie Maeght, Album 13 is a monochromatic portfolio of lithographs printed by the renowned Mourlot Freres. Comprising of 15 black-and-white lithographs (including title page and colophon), the series is characterised by Miró’s gestural style and abstract entities. Dreamlike, the lithographs showcase Miró’s spontaneous automatism through which he channelled and brought to life his subconscious mind. Through his approach, Miró has been categorised as a surrealist, though he adds his own unique touch.
