Biography

‘I'm interested in that which cannot be said but can only be shown'

Jonathan Callan is a contemporary British artist whose work explores the physical qualities of materials. Interested in overlooked substances such as fluff, dust, and dirt, he draws attention to things that are usually ignored. Callan also reflects on the strong influence of literature in British culture, questioning what might be missed when we depend too much on words to communicate experience.

Callan has exhibited internationally at venues such as the Galerie Martin Kudlek, Cologne (2018), the Hopstreet Gallery, Brussels (2016) and the Currier Museum of Art (2017), New Hampshire. His work is held in renowned collections such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, the British Museum, London, and the Princeton University Art Museum, New Jersey.
