Send me more information on Sam Francis
During the late 1940s, while studying for his art degree at Berkeley, Sam Francis was deeply inspired by the abstract expressionist movement. His style, reminiscent of Jackson Pollock’s ‘Drip Paintings’, evolved uniquely, blending dynamic fluidity with his own vision. However, Francis's aspirations reached beyond America, making him one of the first truly global artists. Between 1950 and 1958, Francis lived and worked across diverse cultural hubs, including Paris, the South of France, Tokyo, Mexico City, Bern, and New York. These experiences, particularly the influence of French modernist painting, Asian culture, and Buddhism, significantly impacted his artistic journey.
