Damien Hirst
Send me more information on Damien Hirst
Damien Hirst is a prominent British contemporary artist and a leading figure of the Young British Artists (YBA) movement. A loose collective of artists, the YBAs were known for their entrepreneurial approach to art, employing unconventional materials and shock tactics. Blurring the boundaries between science and art, Hirst’s large-scale provocative pieces confront themes of mortality and opulence. Spanning a broad range of media from sculpture to works on paper, his work is visually striking and hypnotic.
Hirst has had numerous major international retrospectives at renowned venues such as the Tate Modern, London (2012), the Museo Jumex, Mexico City (2025) and the Museo Archeologico Nazionale, Naples (2004). He has also held solo exhibitions at the Albertina Modern, Vienna (2025), the National Art Centre, Tokyo (2022) and the Fondation Cartier, Paris (2021). In 2015, Hirst also opened the Newport Street Gallery in London which displays both his own artworks and his private Murderme collection.
