Gary Hume
‘I want to make an object when I make a print, and I want to have fun making it.’
Gary Hume (b. 1962) is an English artist who rose to prominence in the early 1990s. Created with high-gloss industrial paint, his art is noted for blending abstract formalism with everyday subjects. Hume quickly gained international recognition, being nominated for the Turner Prize in 1996 and representing Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1999. Since his election to the Royal Academy in 2001, he has explored new modes of representations, branching out into sculpture, photography, and printmaking. Regardless of medium, Hume’s work continues to reach international success, as he questions the nature of visual representation and the world around his viewers.
