‘I observed that a cold light intensified some colours and modulated others and warm colours did the contrary’
Peter Sedgley was a prominent figure in the Op Art movement of the 1960s which was characterised by the use of geometric forms to generate optical illusions. Influenced by the geometric illusionistic effects of Bridget Riley, Sedgley began experimenting with light and colour, incorporating filters, ultraviolet light, and stroboscopic effects to create dynamic, immersive works.
Sedgley has had retrospectives at the Redfern Gallery, London and the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham. He has also exhibited internationally at Desmond Fine Art, Austin and the Howard Wise Gallery, New York. His works are held in the collections of The Arts Council and the Tate Britain.
