Biography

Rejecting the Abstract Expressionism prevalent in the mid-20th century, Katz forged his own path. He chose narrative and figurative clarity, blending elements of Pop art with his distinct vision, while steering clear of allegiance to any specific movement or school.

A graduate of Cooper Union in New York, Katz honed his skills en plein air painting at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. His work has been a staple in exhibitions worldwide, including prestigious venues like the Whitney Museum of American Art, the National Portrait Gallery in London, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, and the Fosun Foundation in Shanghai.

Katz's pieces are also a permanent fixture in renowned public collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum, the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Tate.
