Christo and Jeanne-Claude

Christo and Jeanne-Claude were an artist duo renowned for their ambitious, large-scale installations. Working collaboratively, they transformed both natural landscapes and historic structures by wrapping them temporarily in vast expanses of fabric. Reshaping familiar sites into striking new visual experiences, they invited the public to become more aware of their surroundings and the social meaning embedded within them. Installed outdoors, they were accessible to anyone who encountered them. Because each work existed only for a limited time, their art challenged traditional assumptions about permanence and legacy in art history and the fleeting nature of life itself. 

Though their installations were focused on impermanence, they were extensively documented by the artist pair themselves. Major exhibitions and retrospectives of these works have consequently been held in international institutions around the world such as the Saatchi Gallery, London (2023), the Museum Würth, Germany (2025) or the 21_21 Design Sight, Tokyo (2022).
