Description
Ingeniously utilising a Victorian leather bound chess board disguised as a book as a secret icon carrying device.
Oil pigment suspended in sun bleached beeswax and two shades of 23 carat gold on sycamore and iroko wood panels. The icons' sides are painted with iron paint. Floated within an extant chess board book box, bearing the title The History of Canada, which is embellished with iron paint and 23 carat gold.
Outer book box when closed: 44.2 x21.2 x 7.5 cm (Icons each measure 17 x 13 x 2 cm.)
